COVID-19 TRAVEL UPDATE – PANAMA

Updated February 5th, 2021

Panama Implements Flexible Testing Policy to Make Entry Easier for Travelers

Travelers Will be Able to Get a COVID-19 Test Upon Arrival to the Airport

Like most Latin American countries, the Panamanian government has implemented procedures requiring proof of a negative COVID-19 test for all international travelers. However, Panama is also providing the innovative alternative of getting tested at the airport upon arrival to Panama. This makes it easier for people who are not able to get a test or have their results delayed to enter the country safely.

COVID-19 Testing Requirements and Details

  • All visitors to Panama must present a negative COVID-19 test result take a minimum of 48-hours prior to their arrival to Panama. Either a PCR or antigen (rapid) test is accepted.
  • If it is not possible for a traveler to obtain a COVID-19 test within the stated time frame, they will be allowed to enter Panama under the following conditions:
    • An antigen (rapid) test will be administered upon arrival to the airport in Panama. This will be done at the traveler’s expense and costs $50 USD.
    • If the antigen test comes back negative, the traveler will not have to quarantine and can freely travel.
    • If the antigen test is positive, the traveler will be required to quarantine at a government designated hotel. This will be accommodated by the Panamanian government and not at the cost of the traveler.
    • Upon the 7th day of quarantine, a second antigen test will be administered. If this comes back negative, they will be allowed to exit quarantine. If positive, the traveler must remain in quarantine until the result comes back negative.

Other Entry Requirements and Regulations

  • Before entering Panama, all travelers must sign and complete an electronic sworn affidavit prior to checking in for their flight. This form can be found on the official Panama Digital website.
  • Any traveler who has been to the UK or South Africa within the 20 days prior to arrival to Panama will be denied entry. This applies to all travelers who are not nationals or permanent residents of Panama.
  • COVID-19 medical insurance is not required for entry, but is recommended by government agencies.
